This is happening because more employees are working longer hours in front of a computer. Traditional typewriters were often curved in such a way that helped typist avoid hand and wrist fatigue. However, with the advent of the personal computer came carpal tunnel syndrome and wrist complaints. That is the reason for increasing demand for ergonomic computer desks for preventing or rectifying such problems.

The variety of ergonomic computer desks is so wide that they can fit in with your décor and the layout of your office space. Ergonomic computer desks and chairs are designed to provide that and reduce the possibility of body aches, pains and discomforts as a result of your long working hours with your computer.

Although not a new science, ergonomics has been able to become a combination of physiology, psychology and engineering. Its need arose after the Second Ward War, a period that saw many rapid developments in all areas of technology designing. This continued to grow pretty quickly but many people involved with its development did not take into account the comfort of those using the office furniture. The need of the user comfort is more important than designing something that is aesthetically pleasing. Although the needs and comforts of the user are of primary importance, the developers of ergonomic computer desks still tried to make their products look good.

Employers do realize the benefits of investing in ergonomic computer desks. Their employees appreciate their employers' efforts to make the tools of trade comfortable and user-friendly. Desks have to be designed for preventing injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome and repetative strain disorders. It would benefit both employers and their emplyees by improving greater productivity, better morale and less absenteeism. The cost of worker's compension would then be reduced and so would be the reduction of cost on healthcare. Concerned Government Departments periodicaly remind employers to improve the work environment and advocate investments in special office furniture, such as ergonomic computer desks.

Precaution should be taken to avoid computer related health issues like body aches, pains and avoidable discomforts. While selecting workstations, care should be taken to ensure the comfortable level of the user who should be in a position to access their monitor and keyboard at an ideal height. Computer equipment and work surfaces should be arranged in a vertical stack, so everything is easy to reach. And because the work surfaces pull out, the user can sit in any kind of chair, or just stand and work.
