Basic Tips in Writing a Best Man Speech

Being the best man in a wedding is such a privilege. But it also comes with a responsibility. A best man can either be a close friend, brother, or a close relative of the groom or bride. If you had the honor to be the best man of a wedding, you need to create your own speech and deliver it during the wedding itself. To get you started, here are some tips.

Do your research

If you are in the dark when it comes to writing best man speeches, you can always go online and do a little research. You can find a number of information on how to go about your wedding speech. You can read a number of samples online so you would have an idea on how to write your own. There are also speech templates that can easily guide on the things and thoughts that you should include in your speech. Just remember that it would not be enough to use these templates and samples as they are. You should be able to create your own personal wedding speech. You don't want something generic. You want something that is heartfelt and touching. Something that can really be appreciated by the newly wed couples and the rest of the guests. It would be best to speak from your heart and just say what you feel.

Do your draft

Once you already have an idea on what you should write in your best man speeches, it's time to get that pen and paper. Always start with a clean sheet of paper. If you have a hard time starting off with a speech right away, you can begin with writing an outline of the things that you want to say. In your opening remarks, say your congratulations, thank you's and welcoming remarks. Tell the guests a little bit about yourself and your relationship with the bride or the groom. You can also share experiences and memories that you share with the couple and how you feel about their marriage. Make sure that your speech would come out positive. Lastly, don't forget to say your wedding toast and best wishes for the newly wed couple.

Do practice

When you already perfected your draft, take some time to practice delivering your best man speech. There may be times that what you've written may not come out good when you say it out loud. So make sure that you practice delivering your speech days before the event. Practicing delivering your speech would also allow you to check if you have the right tone that you want your speech to have. Do you want to come out serious, solemn or funny? Either way, you should be able to create a wedding speech with utmost sincerity.

Do your thing

On the day of the wedding and when it's time to do your best man speech, remain calm and confident. Everything would be all right if you just be yourself and speak from the heart.
